Holly Sinkule printmaking

Hello all!  My name is Holly Sinkule and I’m a printmaker residing in Fort Collins, CO.  I have a BFA in Art with a concentration in Printmaking from CSU.  Although I already graduated, I’m still working in the CSU printmaking studio.  I’m hoping the lack of a structured class room will help me garner some new, inventive pieces, but I guess we’ll have to see.

My art revolves around process.  I enjoy the act of printing and doing all of the processes that occur before I pull my final print.  I always want to do something new, which is why I’m constantly trying new techniques.  The nature of my subjects comes from the images that come into my head throughout the day.  I often have to stop what I’m doing to sketch out new ideas.  This is why I title some of my work the way I do (ie, Before Bed, etc.) because, although the images are usually non-objective and can’t be articulately explained by myself, I want people to at least understand when or where I thought of them.

One thing that I very much enjoy about my work is the reaction that I hear from viewers.  People always seem to find images and shapes in my work that are unintentional by me, but are a lovely surprise to hear about later.  In the end, I want people to look at my work and see that I’ve put great thought into composition, color and movement.  If they don’t understand it, that’s fine with me as long as they appreciate it and hopefully feel moved by what they see.
